It was a typical Friday night. Emily had just finished her shift at the local diner and decided to take a shortcut through the woods to get home faster. The moon was hidden behind thick clouds, casting eerie shadows on the ground. She quickened her pace, feeling a chill run down her spine.
As she walked deeper into the forest, Emily heard a faint rustling sound. She turned around, but there was nothing there. She shrugged it off, thinking it was just the wind. But the rustling grew louder, closer. She began to run, her heart pounding in her chest.
Suddenly, she tripped over a root and fell to the ground. Before she could get up, she felt something cold and wet on her neck. She screamed as she realized it was a hand, covered in blood. She scrambled to her feet and sprinted towards the edge of the woods.
When she finally reached the road, she collapsed, gasping for breath. She looked back, expecting to see the figure that had attacked her. But there was nothing. No blood, no hand, no figure. Just the dark, empty woods.
Emily stood up, her mind racing. Had she imagined it all? She decided to walk home, but as she turned the corner, she saw a figure standing in the shadows. It was a woman, her face covered in blood. She reached out, and Emily could see the blood rushing from her fingers.
Emily woke up in a cold sweat, her heart still racing. She realized it had all been a nightmare. But as she got up to get a glass of water, she noticed something on her neck. A small, blood-red mark.
