It was a moonless night when Emily decided to take a shortcut through the old cemetery. The air was thick with the scent of damp earth and the distant howling of a lone wolf. She had always been curious about the legends surrounding the graveyard, tales of restless spirits and cursed grounds. But tonight, her curiosity would turn into a nightmare.

As she walked between the crumbling tombstones, Emily felt a chill run down her spine. The shadows seemed to move on their own, and the silence was broken only by the rustling of leaves. She quickened her pace, eager to leave the eerie place behind. But then, she heard it¡ªa soft whisper, barely audible, coming from behind one of the larger monuments.

Curiosity got the better of her, and she approached the tombstone. It was old and covered in moss, but she could still make out the inscription: “Rest in Peace, Mary.” The whisper grew louder, and Emily realized it was her own name being called. She turned around, but there was no one there. Panic began to set in as she tried to run, but her legs felt like lead.

Suddenly, she felt a cold hand on her shoulder. She screamed and spun around, only to find herself face to face with a ghostly figure. It was Mary, the woman from the tombstone, her eyes hollow and filled with sorrow. Emily tried to speak, but no words came out. The ghostly figure reached out, and Emily felt a sharp pain in her chest, as if something was being pulled out of her.

When she finally managed to break free, she ran out of the cemetery, her heart pounding. She looked back, but Mary was gone. Emily collapsed on the ground, gasping for breath. She had escaped, but she knew she would never forget the nerve-tingling encounter.
